The WINCOR Collection
Azerbaijan Flatweaves
About the book
For centuries, the archetypal symbols of weaving peoples have been the expression of a culture that connects. In every country in the world, familiar signs are woven into textiles that hold great meaning for people from different cultures. Over the centuries, cultural exchange and trade between peoples have shaped mutual influences on colour, pattern and style.
This exceptional collection stands out above all for its artistic and aesthetic value. Also important and of great interest are its ethnographic background, the variety and beauty of its compositions and colours, and the technical execution on flat-weaving looms. The discovery of the kilim as a collector's item, the patterns and symbols and, in some cases, the place of origin give these sometimes very large rugs their names. In the publication “Azerbaijan Flatweaves” from the WINCOR collection, Alberto Boralevi describes the origins and patterns of the finest pieces.
